The Little House with a Big Idea

Inspired by the real Hollensbury Spite House in 1830s Alexandria, The Little House with a Big Idea tells the true story of one determined man, one noisy alley, and one very narrow solution. When constant commotion disrupts his peaceful home, John Hollensbury decides to build something unexpected—a tiny house tucked snugly between two larger buildings. What begins as a simple fix becomes a clever piece of history that still stands today.

Aria's Hope

In a quiet garden at the edge of the Appalachian woods, a writing spider spins more than silk—she weaves kindness, courage, and hope.

Aria’s Hope follows Aria, a gentle writing spider who uses her shimmering webs to bring comfort to the creatures around her. When winter settles over the forest and a young fawn needs help, Aria’s gifts—and the friends who gather around her—shine brighter than ever. This beautifully illustrated story celebrates compassion, community, and the magic that happens when even the smallest among us chooses to make a difference.

Aria's Gift

What if a small, quiet act could light the way for everyone around you?

Aria’s Gift is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that celebrates kindness, patience, and the power of using your unique gifts to help others. Set in a peaceful winter landscape, the story follows Aria, a gentle writing spider who doesn’t speak—but instead listens, watches, and weaves.

As animals gather near a barn awaiting new life, Aria creates something extraordinary in her web—a gift made not of words, but of care, timing, and quiet understanding. Without fanfare or attention, her creation brings comfort, hope, and a sense of wonder to all who see it.

Written by retired elementary teacher and children’s author Deborah Jones, Aria’s Gift is inspired by classic storytelling traditions and the belief that even the smallest voices can shine brightly. With its cozy setting, tender message, and rich colored-pencil illustrations, this story invites children and adults alike to slow down, notice the world around them, and reflect on how they, too, can “shine a light” for others.

One True Friend

One True Friend is a gentle, heartfelt picture book set in Macon, Georgia in 1970—a time when classrooms across the South finally opened their doors to all children. Georgia schools were mandated to integrate. Through the eyes of a first grader, readers experience a hopeful story of courage, innocence, and the simple power of seeing one another with kindness.

When Debbie’s family moves from New Jersey to Macon, Georgia, she enters first grade during the turbulent days of school integration. Outside Morgan Elementary, angry crowds gather. Inside, six-year-old Debbie struggles to understand why the world around her feels so divided.

Then she meets Shirlene.

Together, the girls share crayons from a decorated cigar box, jump rope beneath the playground pine tree, and form a friendship untouched by the fear and anger surrounding them.

Inspired by the author’s true story, this tender and unforgettable picture book captures a child’s view of desegregation — where innocence, faith, and friendship shine brighter than hatred.
